KENTISH GAZETTE 18 FEBRUARY 1834 On Thursday week, a poor man named Bardoe, whilst digging a well at Northfleet, was killed, in consequence of the earth falling in upon him. He has left a wife and four children. ● author’s comment: 18 FEB 1834 was a Tuesday, the previous Thursday was 13 FEB, 1 week earlier was 6 FEB – the article doesn’t mention the man’s name, but so far Joseph I is the only Bardoe death found in 1834 – “four children” would be correct, as Joseph II was possibly already dead, leaving 4 children alive – so it would seem that this article is about Joseph I – the date of death, 6 FEB, ties in with the burial of a Joseph Bardoe, 12 FEB 1834

the baptism records for Thomas III and John I show their parents as “Joseph and Ann”, whereas the records for all the other children show “John and Frances/Fanny”, but this must be a mistake, as there was apparently no Joseph Bardoe married to an Ann – perhaps, seeing as how Frances occasionally appears as Fanny, it was just a case of imprecise names given by the parents

in her baptism record, the name “Fanny” is used, in her marriage and burial record it is “Frances”, and in the various census records and in her children’s baptism records it is mostly “Frances”, sometimes “Fanny” - nothing more is known about her
